Sunday, June 14 update

This Sunday June 14, 2020, Western Baptist Church welcomes the Government of Alberta Phase 2 of re-opening of our province with new reduced COVID-19 restrictions Guidelines for places of Worship.
The worship restrictions have been reduced. The new Alberta Phase 2 restrictions for places of worship read:
  • “No cap on the number of people (with public health measures and physical distancing in place)”
  • “There is more flexibility for ‘cohort’ groups – small groups of people whose members do not always keep two metres apart:
    • A household can increase its close interactions with other households to a maximum of 15 people”
  • The age limitation has been removed, therefore people older than 65 can attend services.
To comply with these guidelines, at Western Baptist Church:
  • We re-arranged pews to facilitate the 2 meters social distance.
  • There are face masks and hand sanitizers available upon request.
Based on that information, I am glad to announce we all can come together to church services this Sunday.
However, if you are sick with the flu or if you don’t feel comfortable because you believe you can become sick with the COVID-19 virus, feel free to stay home and continue enjoying the live-streaming events.
We currently have:
  • At 10:00 AM All-Ages Sunday school class taught by Bro. Carl Dornn. (Not on Live-streaming)
  • Live-streaming services at 11:00 AM (Bro. Carl Dornn)
  • Live-streaming services at 6:00 PM (Bro. Collin Willems)
  • Live-streaming services on Wednesday at 7:00 PM (Bro. Kenton Willems)
New:
  • Please join us to re-start our church prayer time at 5:00 PM.

Hold the Fort
Philip P. Bliss

Ho, my comrades, see the signal, waving in the sky!
Reinforcements now appearing, victory is nigh.

Refrain:

“Hold the fort, for I am coming,” Jesus signals still;
Wave the answer back to Heaven, “By Thy grace we will.”

See the mighty host advancing, Satan leading on;

Mighty ones around us falling, courage almost gone!

See the glorious banner waving! Hear the trumpet blow!

In our Leader’s Name we triumph over every foe.

Fierce and long the battle rages, but our help is near;

Onward comes our great Commander, cheer, my comrades, cheer!

SUNDAY, MARCH 22 UPDATE
Thank you to all who where able to join us for our services today. We hope that you were able to receive a blessing from our services.
These are indeed very hard times in which we live in and this should be a reminder to each and everyone of us that the coming of the Lord is very close. In Matthew 24:3-13, the Bible says; "And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved." Later on in that chapter Jesus says in verses 34-42: "Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come." It is up to us to be faithful and strong in God's Word looking unto Jesus and working diligently till He comes to take us home.

The number of cases for the COVID-19 virus continues to increase here in the Province of Alberta as well as the City of Calgary. Just today there were 33 more cases confirmed in the Province bringing the total of confirmed cases up to 259. Our prayers go out to those who have contracted this virus and to those families affected in any way from this virus. Because of this, we have decided to transfer completely to online, live-streamed services. We encourage each one to stay home and keep safe at this time and we hope that you will be able to join us for our live-streamed services. We will continue to hold our live-streams at our scheduled times as the Lord provides and we ask that each one will keep our church, our Pastor, and each other in your prayers. As we finish this update, I would like to leave you with the words of Philip P. Bliss in the song that he wrote entitled "Hold the Fort." May God bless each and every one.

Friday, March 20 update

Due to the COVID - 19 virus our services will be limited for the next few weeks. With the Government of Alberta and the City of Calgary declaring a state of emergency, we are no longer permitted to have groups of 50 or more meeting together. Because of this, we will be allowing a limited amount of people to our church services. We are asking that anyone who is not feeling well or those who are at a higher risk of getting the virus to remain home and keep yourself healthy. With this is mind, we will be holding online live streamed services till further notice for those who are unable to attend. We will still be holding our services at our normally scheduled times and you will be able to view the live stream on our Live Stream page. Live streaming is new to our church as we have not had a need for this in the past. Below, you will find a button that will take you to our Live Streaming page.

It is our prayer here at Western Baptist Church that everyone will remain healthy and that each and everyone will keep their faith in God in this trying time. We would like to remind everyone what James 1:2-7 says: "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord."  2 Timothy 1:6-9 says: "Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began."  Our prayers go to those who have been affected by this virus and it is our prayer that everyone will seek God's face at this time. Please continue to monitor this page for more updates. Thank You.
